Elaine Woo MacGregor & Louise Schmid

Heterotopia is an exhibition of new works by Glasgow based artists Louise Schmid and Elaine Woo MacGregor.

This show brings together two artists who have completed several residencies and traveled extensively in similar zones. Both artists come from different backgrounds in terms of cultural identity, professional training, age, language and nationality.

In the past year, they have both been creating new work at their Dovehill Studios in Glasgow, using experiences from their travel as a rich source of inspiration.

In the summer of 2007, Schmid travelled by Trans-Siberian -Mongolian-Manchurian railway to northern China. This January, she showed her work titled "Eurasian capsule" at Esther Hufschmid Gallery in Zurich.

In March 2008, MacGregor was the Artist in Residence in the Academy of Fine Art in Guiyang, China. Throughout this period, she worked with students and settlements of different Chinese ethnic minority groups in Guizhou province, southwest China. For MacGregor, it was a journey of rediscovering aspects of her Chinese heritage.

Glasgow school of Art 2009 Graduates

We are delighted to be showing some of the best work from this years graduates of Glasgow School of Art.

We were also delighted that Helen Shaddock found the time to freely curate the exhibition and we thank her for creating a visual and exciting show.

TIAN MILLER

SIlent Emptiness
1st June - 3rd July 2009

New Installation, textile, print and embroidery based art by norwegian artist Tian Miller, inspired by her recent residency in Trondheim Norway.
Tian uses found materials such as printed fabrics, old wallpaper retrieved from derelict buildings, and garments passed on from relatives onto which she screen prints images of her own design. The effect created is an uneasy marriage of the two images contrasting the highly stylized, decorative, found patterned fabrics with appropriated technical scientific drawings and Victorian style silhouettes.
Congratulations also to Tian who has been awarded the Dusseldorf Residency where she will take up residency in Dusseldorf, Germany in July. Tian will stay in a complex of artists live/work spaces in the “Bilk” district of the city – close to the centre. Her studio will be just above the Kunstraum which is where she will exhibit her work at the end of her stay.

White House Glasgow

Licking Wounds

We have recently opened a sister space next door to the Pentagon Gallery called the White House which was also the art venue for the new Hinterland Music and Arts Festival that took place recently at Glasgow's music venues.
And we are delighted to have artists Agnes Nedregard & Moray Hillary on a 4 week residency which will culminate in a one night stand of Installation and Performance called Licking Wounds on sat 13th June.
The space is a wonderful addition to the Pentagon as it will be used for more creative and experimental art, a space for artists to work in and perform their pieces.
